What is a prayer intention?
Entrusting an intention means asking the Christian community to carry a person, a situation or a hoped-for grace in its prayer. A practice as old as the Church: we pray for one another because we form one Body.
An intention can accompany a Mass — the traditional practice of the Mass offering — or simply be carried in the silent prayer of the community.
How it works
Three simple steps
Step 1
You leave your intention
A few lines are enough — for someone who has died, a healing, thanksgiving, a loved one in difficulty, a decision to make.
Step 2
The parish office passes it on
Your intention is received by the parish team, who record it and pass it on to the priest.
Step 3
It is entrusted to prayer
Carried by the community and, on request, celebrated at a specific Mass. You will be told the date.
Mass offering
An offering, never a fee
When an intention is entrusted to a specific Mass, it is customary to add an offering — the Mass offering. The Bishops’ Conference of France recommends an indicative amount of €18. This sum contributes to the support of the celebrating priest.
No intention is ever refused for financial reasons. If you cannot give, your intention will still be carried in the prayer of the community.
